Attractor Parameters
Fractal type Attractor is a true 3D fractal type: The whole rendering takes place in 3D.
As such, you may find several parameters related to 3D, e.g. settings for observer, light sources, etc.
So let me explain in short terms the meaning of the 5 tabs available in the parameter window.
Parameter | This tab contains general rendering parameters for the fractal: This includes the rendering algorithm (Solid, Plasma, Flame) as well as opacity setting, gamma and contrast.
If you want to know more about what an Attractor actually is and how ChaosPro tries to calculate and render it, see Theory of Attractor |
View | This tab now lets you specify all items related to the observer: This includes the observer position, the observer orientation and the view direction. A detailed description of each parameter can be found at View Parameters. |
Light | This tab lets you specify all available light settings: This includes the light position, the intensity, etc. . ChaosPro uses a variation of the Phong lighting model. Of course, ray tracing programs would produce much better results, but the quality seems to be sufficient for a fractal generator. More info can be found at Light Parameters. |
The previous tabs contained parameters which affect the view and are not directly related to the fractal itself. The next two tabs now let you specify the fractal related stuff: The formulas to use and the coloring to apply.
Formula | Here you can define the transformation formulas and formula sets to use in order to render the attractor. A more detailed description can be found at Attractor Formulas. |
Coloring | And the last tab lets you choose the coloring algorithm to use. The settings there do not affect the shape of the fractal, they only affect the colors of the object. A more detailed description can be found at Attractor Coloring. |
